Animal Companions

"An animal's eyes have the power to speak a great language." ~Martin Buber
If you have a pet, you understand the deep connection between you and your companion. Our pets present to us a unique relationship, opening us to the many forms of communication and love.
-
A ceremony for an animal can be arranged to welcome an adopted pet into your home or to celebrate the return of a pet that was away from home due to illness, injury, or even lost.
-
A decision to end the life of a pet through euthanasia can be merciful and difficult. A farewell ceremony or gathering with your companion can be deeply meaningful and, I believe, helpful to your pet.
-
Memorial ceremonies honoring the death of a pet can provide peace, comfort and space for grief as you simultaneously celebrate his/her life Your memorial might take the form of a graveside service, a ceremony for scattering your pet's ashes, or a remembrance gathering after the burial or cremation has already taken place.
Ritual and ceremony create a time and place to recognize
the interconnection of all living beings.

I can work with you in two ways. As a consultant, I will suggest many possibilities based on your wishes, and I will help you plan a ceremony that you will conduct. As an officiant I can lead a ceremony that we design together.
When I am consulting, it is important to me that we co-create the ceremony for your beloved pet. I will incorporate your values, traditions, and affiliations. The ceremony, whether it is welcoming a pet or saying goodbye, can be held in a variety of settings and styles. As an ordained interfaith minister I bring a spiritual background to all ceremonies, and as an animal lover, I share your joy and sorrow; I understand the profound life lessons we gain from our pets.
Please call or email me to discuss your needs and plans.
